Mark lives in Southern California and has coached track and field for over 20 years. A national caliber miler while in college, he became the youngest collegiate head coach at age 23 as coach at Pacific University in the 1980's.

From 1993-97, Mark coached the Cal Coast Track Club and in 1995-97 lead Mission Viejo High School's cross country team to its only two state meet appearances in the school's history. During the 1999-00 season, Mark served as Distance Track Coach and Cross Country Coach at Long Beach State and coached their first 1500m Conference Champion.

Since 1997, Mark has coached the So Cal Track Club and still actively competes as a masters track and cross-country athlete in national and world championships.

Mark is actively involved in USATF's Masters Track & Field programs. He currently holds a position on the USA Masters Track & Field Executive Committee as the West Regional Masters Coordinator and also chairs the Masters Invitational Committee which puts on masters exhibition events for elite masters athletes at the USA Open Track & Field Championships.
